Patrick Lundeen is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and university lecturer. He studied art in Alberta and Glasgow and has taught at universities across Alberta and British Columbia. He is currently on faculty at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna. Before moving to Kelowna, Patrick lived and worked for many years in Calgary, Montreal, and New York. His practice engages with overlooked spaces and contexts, questions of authorship, and the decentralization of authority within gallery spaces and through new technologies.
In recent years, he has been creating kinetic sculptures that combine image, movement, and soundâcoming to life through audience interaction. His work often embraces humor, irony, sensory perception, and a raw, visceral aesthetic to draw attention to social and political issues. At times his art takes the form of decaying waste and chaos, pointing to inequality and imbalance; at other times, he uses humor to critique the financial structures of the art world or to reflect on consumer culture in contemporary Canada.
In addition to his visual practice, Patrick has recorded five original music albums. He regularly participates in artist residencies and has exhibited in solo and group shows in New York, Chicago, Stockholm, Toronto, Quebec, and throughout the Okanagan.
For Chemnitz 2025, he contributed a music album on the German side of the Ore MountainsâDIY music marked by witty and at times darker lyrics. For the Czech side, he prepared a kinetic sculpture that humorously provides feedback to those who interact with it. For Patrick, the notions of heroes and authorship have become obsolete in todayâs world.
