We are delighted by the great interest from the public – and we have fantastic news! The Hermann Krauße: Ore Mountains/Erzgebirge 1904–1930 exhibition will be extended until April 13. And if you still don’t manage to see this collection of photographs by the talented Steinbach photographer, don’t worry – later this year, the exhibition will be showcased in two more locations in Saxony. The exact dates and venues will be announced soon.
A Look Back at the Opening Ceremony
The exhibition opening on February 7 at St. Catherine’s Church in Chomutov attracted photography and history enthusiasts from both the Czech Republic and Germany. Among the distinguished guests were the mayors of Steinbach and Hohndorf, researcher Manfred Mauersberger, and representatives of Silberbüchse – Förderverein Karl May Haus e. V. and Atelierhaus Kühnhaide, who played a key role in bringing the exhibition to life.
The evening continued with a lecture by historian Josef Märc, Ph.D., titled "Where Memory Reaches" at Rouge Chomutov, exploring the themes of memory, identity, and the influence of regional history on the present.
Where to Visit the Exhibition?
The photographs are on display not only at the Chomutov Museum during its opening hours but also in public spaces – at Chomutov-město train station and in the underpass on Palackého Street near the bus station.
The exhibition is part of the “Try Walking in May Shoes” project, an official program of European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. This Czech-German-Canadian project, inspired by the imagination of writer Karl May, is organized by Redpond.cz, Ženský spolek, z. s., Silberbüchse, e. V., Oblastní muzeum v Chomutově, Atelierhaus Kühnhaide, and a group of artists from both sides of the Atlantic.
