Karl May Memorial Plaque
At the end of October, the façade of the former Scherber Hotel in Chomutov will be adorned with a plaque commemorating one of its distinguished guests.
In 1897, the world-famous writer Karl May spent several days in Chomutov and visited, among other things, the local Gerümpel Exhibition.
Thanks to the cooperation of the City of Chomutov, the Regional Museum of Chomutov, and the partners of the international initiative Try Walking in May Shoes, this historic visit will be commemorated with a new memorial plaque created by sculptor Štěpán Bílek.
The unveiling will feature a performance prepared by students of the Literary and Drama Department of the Klement Slavický Elementary Art School in Kadaň, joined by our German friends from the Silberbüchse association and other organizations dedicated to preserving Karl May’s legacy.
The creation and installation of the plaque was partially supported by the Czech-German Future Fund.
