Workshop of “Junk and Imagination” – Preparing for the Junk Exhibition
Under the guidance of artist Tereza Zemanová and theatre maker Zdena Mlezivová (Creative Workshops Without Barriers, Brno, pictured), a two-day workshop will take place in Chomutov, combining theatre, visual art and playful interaction with everyday objects.
Participants will work with “junk” – found or discarded items – and give them new meaning by inventing and performing strategies for selling them at a benefit event. The workshop follows the tradition of the 1897 Junk Exhibition, which was personally visited by Karl May during his stay in Chomutov.
This year, we will symbolically recreate this event – the proceeds will support Parent Project Droužkovice, an organisation that helps families of children with muscular dystrophy, supports medical research, offers counselling, and connects parents across the Czech Republic.
🌟 During the workshop, participants will explore:
-
the basics of improvisational theatre and working with body, voice, and space,
-
a creative approach to everyday materials,
-
collaboration and spontaneous expression,
-
and, above all, they will take a break from the dopamine rush of social media and rediscover the space of their own imagination.
